Jim Zorn became the 27th head coach of the Washington Redskins on February 10, 2008. In his first season with the Redskins, he guided them to an 8-8 record in the competitive NFC East. The Redskins won two games over the Philadelphia Eagles, who advanced to the NFC Championship. The Redskins also won an impressive game with the Arizona Cardinals. Jim Zorn is highly regarded for his offensive knowledge. Zorn was originally hired by the Redskins in January 2008 as their offensive coordinator to replace their retiring head coach, Joe Gibbs. Two weeks later he was hired as head coach by the owner, Daniel Snyder, who was impressed with his offensive abilities. After his first season with the Redskins, Zorn's new offensive schemes helped four starters to earn Pro Bowl honors: running back Clinton Portis, tight end Chris Cooley, tackle Chris Samuels and fullback Mike Sellers. Jim Zorn played college football at Cal Poly Pomona in California. He was the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks from 1976 to 1983. He held back-up quarterback positions for the Seahawks (1983-84; the Green Bay Packers (1985), the Winnepeg Blue Bombers (1986), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1987) and then retired after the 1986 NFL season. After his playing years in the NFL, Zorn became the quarterback coach for Boise State University (1988-91). His next stop was as offensive coordinator for Utah State (1992-94). Zorn coached the quarterbacks for the University of Minnesota from 1995-1996. Jim Zorn served under three NFL head coaches: Dennis Erickson (Seattle Seahawks), Bobby Ross (Detroit Lions) and Mike Holmgren (Seattle Seahawks). In 1997-98 he moved to a pro coaching position for the Seahawks as an offensive assistant. In 1999-2000, he was the quarterbacks coach for the Detroit Lions. Again he returned to the Seahawks as their quarterback coach in 2001-2007. Jim Zorn has been the recipient of many awards in his playing and coaching years. Among those honors was his induction into the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame in November, 2008.
