Neil Gaiman, originally from England, has lived in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for 16 years and currently resides in Wisconsin. He is being awarded the highly coveted Newbery Medal for his children's book entitled, "The Graveyard Book". This award will be presented to Mr. Gaiman in Chicago in July.
Gaiman is known around the world for the large amount of writing he has done. The author is also known for the varying types of writing he has done as well as his creativity. He has written comic books, books for children and adults, screen plays and has directed movies.
The story is about a young boy whose name is Nobody Owens who lives in a graveyard and is being raised by ghosts! The books begins with murders and a missing baby. According to the Minneapolis Star and Tribune, Mr. Gaiman reports that "there is no sex in it and no swearing". The author thinks that children as young as 8 years of age could possibly like this book. Parents would be wise to read this book before buying it or checking it out at the library to determine if appropriate for their young child. This book has enjoyed 15 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list.
