Super Bowl XLIII

On Sunday, February 1 many Americans and viewers around the world will gather in front of their televisions sets to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals play for the championship. The Pittsburgh Steelers have made 6 previous appearances and have two championship titles. The Arizona Cardinals are making their first appearance on the "big stage".  The game will be played at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida beginning at 4:00 p.m. EST.  You can view the game on three channels:  NBC, FOX and ESPN.

A bit of history:  The first Super Bowl was played  January 15, 1967, however the event was then known as the "NFL-AFL World Championship.  In 1969 the name was shortened to "Super Bowl".  In 1969, the first "Super Bowl" game had the Green Bay Packers playing the Kansas City Chiefs.  Green Bay won that game and also won the 1970 Super Bowl game. Later that year their longtime, very successful coach, Vince Lombardi passed away.  The Super Bowl Trophy was named the Vince Lombardi Trophy prior to Super Bowl V.

So is it the game that particularly interests you?  Is it the commercials that get your attention?  How about the entertainment?  The cast of entertainers this year is quite spectacular.
  • Faith Hill will sing "America, the Beautiful" as part of the pre-game entertainment.
  • Jennifer Hudson will sing the National Anthem, her first public appearance since her  mother, brother and nephew were murdered in Chicago in October, 2008.
  • Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band will perform at halftime.

Don't forget to stock the refrigerator and pantry with plenty of drinks and favorite snacks for this annual party!
