Baking with Grandchildren

Grandchildren are a gift of age and what better way could there be to bond than to bake together. If you are fortunate enough to have your grandkids close by, then you need to start them helping you in the kitchen at a very young age. They can start watching you as a one year old toddler, and by the time they are two let them get involved, use a step stool that is safe so they can get up to the counter height. You can allow them to put the ingredients in the bowl as you stir. They will most likely make a mess, but messes are easily cleaned up.

What could be more fun than a grandchild and grandma rolling out yeast bread, letting the child pat the bread and get their hands in the flour. Of course, the best part is the aroma of the bread baking, and then getting to taste it right out of the oven piping hot with melting butter on top.

If you start at a very young age letting your grandchild help you in the kitchen, this is something they will always have fond memories of. As the children get older, they can learn to do more and more at baking time. So by the time they are five or six they can learn to put the cookie dough on the baking sheet. And by the age of 10 they can mix up the cookies and bake them with only you looking on to make sure they don't get hurt.

A lot of children don't have grandparents, or don't know who they are, so if you're a grandparent, bake something with your child. Nothing could be more fun or more rewarding.
