Although you’re two generations removed, you as a grandparent can be one of your grandchildren’s best friends and mentors. There is a certain bond between grandparent and grandchild that even the parent child relationship does not reach. Perhaps you’d be surprised at the amount of love and veneration your grandchild would love to give you if you’d let him.
As you think of activities to do to bond with your grandchildren and to help get involved in their lives, cooking together is always an exciting and rewarding endeavor to do. Not only does your grandchild learn important skills such as how to measure, mix, have patience and improve their reading comprehension, but they also get to interact with you in a creative way that tends to bring out elements in everyone’s personalities that would otherwise remain hidden.
If you’re going to cook with your grandchildren, though, you need to remind yourself before you begin, especially if your grandchildren are young, that cooking in this circumstance is for the end goal of fun, not perfection. Children are going to make many mistakes, and going into it with this expectation and an expectation of a huge mess that will inevitably occur, is wise.
One fun recipe that your grandchildren will be sure to love is Kraft Food’s Quick Quesadillas. The only ingredients you need are:
• 1/2 cup salsa
• 2 Tbsp. Miracle Whip Dressing
• 1/2 tsp. chili powder
• 8 flour tortillas (6 inch)
• 3/4 lb. cooked boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced
• 1 cup Kraft Mexican Style Shredded Four Cheese
As you guide your grandchildren in your cooking activity, you’ll find great enjoyment and satisfaction as they learn to create and construct something delicious!
